Cheryl Boote | neurodivergent counsellor working online | Healing Connections Therapy

About Me

Hi, I'm Cheryl Boote (she/her).

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. I'm an integrative counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I work online, offering remote sessions to clients across the UK, and I also offer face to face sessions in Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire.

I’m a late-discovered neurodivergent therapist (ADHD and autistic, or AuDHD).

I am passionate about and have experience of working affirmatively with neurodivergent clients and the LGBTQ+ community. My own personal lived experiences give me insight into how different aspects of identity can impact mental health, daily life and relationships. I offer a non-judgmental approach to help explore what your identity means to you and how you might discover and express more of your authentic self, while developing coping skills if you find this useful. Your identity might not be the focus of our work together, but it can be helpful to know that your therapist recognises and honours these parts of you.

My integrative counselling approach is a blend of person-centred, attachment-based and relational psychodynamic models. This means that I value your individual experience and capacity for growth, and I believe all humans need connection. I believe that a lot of internal struggles stem from early experiences with other people, which can create patterns of protecting ourselves or seeking connection. I’m interested in helping you get to the root of the issue, while paying attention to interpersonal dynamics in the here-and-now. I hope that the therapeutic relationship will come to feel like a secure base, and we can work together to explore and start to heal old wounds so you can move towards meaningful change.

As an integrative counsellor I can adapt my approach to work with your individual needs and goals, although the therapeutic relationship is always central in the process. Being truly seen, heard and accepted in a safe space can be very powerful and healing, and this might be a new experience for many people.

My approach is also trauma-informed, carefully paced to ensure we work safely, using grounding techniques to regulate the nervous system and connect with your body and present experience. This helps to build resilience both in therapy and in your daily life, before we begin to process difficult experiences.

It’s important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with, and it can feel like a big decision to make. I offer a free initial consultation of up to 30 minutes by phone call or online meeting, which gives you a chance to briefly talk about why you are seeking counselling and ask any questions you might have for me. This can help you get a sense of whether we might work well together, and to decide if you’d like to begin sessions with me.
